I can’t be the first person to comment this, but I don’t understand the logic of mounting the rear subframe in the chassis backwards. I get the serviceability aspect getting the EV motor in from the rear, but reversing the mounting also reverses the toe curve which will make the car unpredictable and frankly, dangerous. Not sure if this is an oversight, or you just don’t care because it’s a limited use toy, but please be careful.

If you have access to a powder coating oven and can use it long enough to do the whole process, you could anneal the whole frame. It would normalize all the welded areas and make that frame as tough as a steel frame, provided, of course, you don't weld on it after you anneal it. An annealed aluminium structure can last as long, or longer, than a steel frame. Great work though. I really love all the projects you get to do.

Rich, those first gen Nissan leaf high voltage batteries do not have decent cooling. They were known for failing due to the fact that there was just air cooling, Make sure you increase the air flow through that battery pack or its life will be extremely short.

I could get behind this if there was a range extender in it! There was a Tesla on UA-cam that a guy put a Kubota Diesel engine in, turbocharged it and added a generator to it to charge the batteries while he was driving or just sitting. It was amazing the millage he was getting and wasn't strapped to an extension cord if he was in a pinch. You know like if he had to charge it NOW, the battery is dead! Like in Chicago when the deep freeze hit and people were abandoning their dying car so they didn't freeze to death themselves! Cool frame and body by the way! Always admired your craftsmanship and dedication! Whats up with your buddies turbo 2.4L from the Chrysler he is hooking to a RWD standard trans in the little two seater car? Did he get all the motor, trans, and floor mocked up with a rear dif yet?

Vince is a damn trooper, people can talk all the shit they want, not many of them would have spent 40+ hours doing the best possible job they could outside of their normal jobs.

Sheet, I'd kill for that beautiful Highboy, I'd just swap those wheels out for some 16.5" white steels and some 34x9.5 Interco Narrow Super Swamper TSL's and throw a lift pump on and be golden 👌 I'm a GM guy, mainly 68-98 ,currently have a 97 GMC RCSB K1500 Sierra SLE on 6" lift, 15x10" polished Pro Comp 69's and 35x12.5 Patagonias with the trusty Vortec 350, but I have a weakness for those Highboys, especially when they're diesel swapped (a nice 6BT mechanical Cummins would be preferred)....one of these days though, if the stars align, I'll be trying to find myself either a square GMC or 88-00 GMC K2500/3500 regular cab, throwing a Detroit 6v53t into it and a Spicer 😅

I would have felt more comfortable seeing the body overlaid to see attach points. I guess donuts will be solution.

For stick this is pretty impressive! I had a Miller Synchrowave 120(?) and that was a joy to tig weld with. In mid 1990s that was a $2000 welder. I would have to have the high HZ and pedal that controls a solenoid valve to the argon again. Might have to learn stick at this price! BTW I love the bowling ball stand. I may need to build one if I get another welder!
